Directory Submissions

January 28th, 2009

graffias logo

So if you read my last post, SEO Services, you may have realized that optimizing a site for search engines isn’t neccessarily about fixing the actual site, and that it can really be heavily influenced just by having a ton of other sites linking to you. Those are quality sites of course.

Graffias Network is a site designed to help you get those links, and is even used by SEO specialists for link building. One of the ways they improve your backlinks is by directory submission. This is something you could do yourself, but it takes a long time, and costs more. They charge only $5 per link (with some conditions), and if you look at the list of where they submit, many of those sites charge much more doing it yourself. Besides directory submissions they also have a network of blogs where they write posts about your sites, create content for you, and various other blog tasks that can help spread the work, and improve the quality of your site.

Graffias Network does offer web services as well. It is more of marketing a site in general, but sometimes in optimizing you need a little webmaster help as well. They offer: web design, coding, web development, and several promotional services. The Graffias Network is a relatively new network, as of 2008, but they have been in the business since 2001. In 2004 they experienced a rapid expansion of sites and services,  which has become the large network they are now. Take the time to dig around, and check it out.

January 27th, 2009

Since I started this site I have had a few of you ask if I offer SEO services. I do not. I can offer some basic advice, buy my specialty is site usability. My job is to make sure websites work, and work well, not in getting visitors. Having a site that is easy to find on search engines is a usability issue though, so I thought I would mention some SEO companies over the next few weeks.

The first one is Submit Comfort, and they are a SEO services company. The offer several different link building methods, submission services, and writing services. January 26th, 2009

Best Web Host released the best host winner for January 2009, Fat Cow. Best Web Host reviews hosting companies based on their rates and plans.

fatcow award

At $5.50 a month with unlimited storage and bandwidth, it sound like a pretty good deal. There was twelve ratings on the site, eleven of them were highly positive. Best Web Hosts rates the hosts by: reliability, price, control panel, customer support, and overall value. The second best rated server was HostMonster, and that was no surprise there. HostMonster has had an ongoing reputation of being one of the best for the price.

Best Web Host also listed the top five ecommerce web hosting sites. iXWebHosting took first in that category, followed up by HostMonster again. My hosting company, HE.Net, offers a nothing. I get compensated though, by incomparable reliability. I’m O.K. uploading my own software.

Right now, Best Web Host is running a poll about what your favorite hosting company is. It’s located in their right sidebar, so now is the time to see what others are saying besides the Best Web Host’s reviews. Right now Lunar Pages is winning, and honestly, I have never heard of them. Guess you can’t be everywhere online. What’s your favorite?

UGT Servers

January 23rd, 2009

UGT logo

Are you a gaming fanatic? I know many of you are, and for a while I was. I even hosted my own Teamspeak server for a while. Hassle. I hated sharing my IP address. If I knew about UGT I probably would have just gotten a Teamspeak Server. It’s cheap, and doesn’t hog my bandwidth. Here is your introduction to a Ventrilo Server.

Low Cost

UGT Servers offers a variety of packages based on your gamming/community needs. Prices start at just $2.69 a month for a ten person limit, and go up to $23.25 a month for 100 person limit. When I was hosting my own I never had more than ten, but that was still enough to slow down my old DSL line. $32 for an entire year could equal a ton of fun. They have Ventrilo Hosting throughout the contry, and is not just limited to the U.S., so connection speed should not be an issue.

Easy Setup

According to UGT, even a Level 12 Mage could even set it up. The servers use a web based control panel, you can add and remove channels, you can modify voice codecs, and you can even reset/turn on/turn off your server. In the past, when I ran my own, it was an easy setup. If you have someone set up the server for you like UGT,  well don’t be surprised if a twelve year old is hosting one.

Cool service, great idea for a hosting company, a good luck in your gaming fun. I will crush you.

Site Review of Mike Nutter Golf

January 22nd, 2009

Being a webmaster and a site analyst, I have a few friends that build websites themselves. Temi is one of those webmasters, and a few of his sites I have mentioned here in this blog already. One of his sites is this Discount Golf Equipment site, called Mike Nutter Golf.

Mike Nutter’s Golf is an e-commerce site selling golf equipment. They use Boss Cart to drive the store, and if you are unfamiliar with Boss Cart, check out my review about it here. The site targets a UK audience, and as you would expect sells all things golf related, even clothes. You can find plenty of products on sale, and additionally find some shipping deals. I don’t think I would want to pay to ship an entire set of clubs.

The site also had a Golf Equipment Blog where you can keep up with the latest in golfing news. It seemed still in it’s beginning stages, but with a little extra effort I am sure it will take off like most of Temi’s sites do. The last post was just a few days ago, and it was about converting your lawn into a golfing lawn. Don’t think I will be doing that, being that my back yard is cement and water. I have a pool.

Anyhow, I hope you check out the site, especially if you are from the UK, and don’t forget to check out their special discount page for a deal.
