Ethical Directory

December 26th, 2008

For those of you that are into the “green” thing, I am sure many of you have heard of Google’s Blackle. It’s basically Google, but it uses a black background instead. Why would you use Blackle? It saves energy. Not lighting up all those pixels may not really save your personal power bill, but if used by millions of persons, it can make a difference environmentally.

Visiting this Organic & Ethical Directory got me to thinking about Blackle. What if Blackle only showed results of sites that were also green, or sold green products/services? The ethical directory only lists sites that are: natural, organic, ethical, fair trade, and environment friendly products and services. It might be a bit of a stretch for Google’s algorithm, but it could possibly filter out some of the bad guys like a chlorine plant or something. I guess this is why directories still play an important roll. Some things just need the human mind to do the work.

The ethical directory also had a blog, Ethical Directory Blogs, reporting newsworthy environmental issues going on on it the UK.
